Pescara,

ITALY

Pescara is an excellent place to hold a swimming training camp.  The city, located in central Italy on the Adriatic coast, hosted the 2009 Mediterranean Games and boasts an excellent sports complex.

Spread along 15 miles of coastland, it is the largest and most important city on the Adriatic coast.  With 150,000 inhabitants there is plenty for everyone including a wide choice of restaurants, cafes, shops, and nightlife along with some of the finest beaches in the region.

The swimming pool complex is located to the north of the city and is literally 100 metres from the beach and 400 metres from our chosen hotels.

There are four heated pools onsite including an outdoor Olympic pool, 2 x 25m pools and a 33m pool.  The Olympic pool is available from the end of May through until the end of September, but from 2011 there will be a "bubble" roof constructed so it can be used all year round - indoor in the winter and outdoor in the summer.  All pools are heated to a minimum of 27 degrees.

There are also many other sports facilities within the complex including a modern gym which is included in the price for all swimming teams.

Teams have a choice of hotels, including the brand new 3* superior Hotel la Ninfea which is just a short walk from the Pescara Swimming Complex.  Teams looking for a 4 star establishment will stay at the Hotel Sea Lion which is a 5 minute drive from the pool.

The la Ninfea hotel is located only 50m from the beach and has a wonderful view of the sea. They have their own private beach area and boast 22 elegantly furnished rooms all with large balconies with either a sea or wood view.  All rooms are air conditioned with wi-fi internet access.

The 4* Sea Lion hotel is a short drive along the coast and located directly on the beach.  The hotel is used regularly by the Italian National Swim Team.  Transfers to and from the hotel to the swimming complex can be arranged.

For both hotels, there is a choice of single, twin and triple rooms based on B&B, half board or full board.

Pescara has its own airport with direct flights from many European cities.  Teams can also choose to fly into Rome which is only 2 hours away.  Sports Abroad will organise all transfers to and from Pescara and can also help to organise guided excursions to Rome, Florence and other famous tourist areas close by.
